Everything you need to know about Aletis Travel’s healing retreats for women cancer survivors.

What does Aletis Travel do?

Aletis Travel specializes in healing retreats in Kumamoto, Japan, designed specifically for women who are cancer survivors with complete cancer remission. We take pride in our deep knowledge of the region. Our close collaborations with local partners allow us to create personalized itineraries that reflect each guest’s unique needs and aspirations. We offer both individual and group counseling to the population of cancer survivors that are led by certified therapists with evidence-based approaches.

Before every retreat, we conduct a comprehensive consultation with our clients for two important reasons. First, it helps us gain a deeper understanding of clients’ interests, wellness goals, travel preferences, and personal circumstances. Second, it allows us to facilitate appropriate counseling and wellness support through an intake assessment, ensuring that each experience is thoughtfully tailored to support our clients’ physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Complimentary Consultation

We begin with a complimentary consultation to learn about your interests, wellness goals, travel preferences, budget, and special needs. This conversation helps us understand how to create a meaningful and personalized journey for you.

Itinerary Outline

Based on our consultation, we develop a preliminary trip framework that includes proposed travel dates, destinations, accommodations, logistics, and an estimated budget. You will have the opportunity to review and provide feedback before we move forward.

Planning Fee

Once you approve the itinerary outline, a non-refundable planning fee of $150 is required. This fee covers the research, coordination, and customization involved in designing your journey. Additional planning fees may apply for last-minute travel arrangements, multi-destination itineraries, or particularly complex requests.

Detailed Itinerary Proposal

We present a customized day-by-day itinerary featuring recommended accommodation, activities, wellness experiences, transportation, and actual pricing. We work closely with you to refine the proposal until it aligns with your vision and needs.

Trip Confirmation & Deposit

To secure your reservation, a deposit of 35%–65% of the total trip cost is required, depending on supplier requirements. Upon receipt of payment, Aletis Travel will begin confirming and booking accommodation, transportation, and experiences through our trusted travel partners and host agency.

Detailed Itinerary Delivery

As your departure date approaches, we finalize your personalized itinerary and discuss any optional enhancements, special experiences, or last-minute adjustments to ensure a seamless travel experience.

Final Payment

The remaining balance is due 90 days prior to departure unless otherwise specified by individual suppliers.

Departure & Travel Support

Throughout your journey, our team remains available to provide support, answer questions, and assist with any unexpected situations that may arise, allowing you to travel with confidence and peace of mind.

Post-Trip Feedback

After your return, we invite you to share your experience with us. Your feedback helps us continually improve our services and create even more meaningful journeys for future travelers.

Aletis Travel was inspired by founder Li Wiesel’s personal experience caring for her mother during her cancer journey. During that journey, Li witnessed the profound healing power of Japan’s hot springs, natural landscapes, and the culture of Zen meditation. What began as a deeply personal experience eventually became a vision: to create meaningful wellness journeys for women navigating life after cancer treatment.

We understand that cancer survivorship extends far beyond medical care. While many travel companies focus primarily on destinations and activities, we focus on the person behind the journey. Having accompanied her mother through treatment, Li recognizes the unique physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges that often arise during recovery and survivorship.

Every woman arrives with her own story. Our wellness retreats create a safe, compassionate, and supportive environment where women are invited to share their experiences, reflect on their journeys, and be witnessed without judgment. Through meaningful conversations and guided group experiences, participants often discover that their struggles, fears, and hopes are echoed in the stories of others. These shared moments foster a sense of belonging, reduce feelings of isolation, and remind each woman that we do not have to navigate survivorship alone.
We chose Kumamoto, Japan, as the heart of our retreats because of its healing hot springs, sacred natural landscapes, and strong sense of community. Through our close relationships with local innkeepers, wellness practitioners, guides, and community members, we offer authentic experiences that most travelers would never discover on their own. These meaningful connections invite guests to experience Japan not simply as visitors, but as participants in a culture that values presence, hospitality, and well-being.

As a travel advisor and a wellness consultant, we are compensated for the expertise, time, and personalized attention we dedicate to each client. Our planning fee reflects the care, research, and coordination required to create a meaningful and seamless travel experience.

In return for your investment, we are committed to serving as your advocate and guide throughout the entire journey. From the initial consultation to your return home, we provide attentive support before, during, and after travel. Our goal is not simply to book a trip, but to create an exceptional and transformative experience that allows you to travel with confidence, ease, and peace of mind.

For your own protection, Aletis Travel requires comprehensive travel insurance including trip cancellation, medical, evacuation, and lost belongings. We are happy to assist you with a quote through our preferred provider, Travel Insured.

If you choose not to purchase travel insurance, you must sign a form stating that you have voluntarily done so and are fully aware of the implications and are also fully aware of Remote Lands’ cancellation policy.

Each Aletis Travel retreat is thoughtfully designed as a complete wellness experience rather than a collection of individual travel components. For this reason, we provide pricing for the retreat, rather than itemized costs for accommodation, transportation, activities, and wellness services.
Our retreats are built through close partnerships with local inns, wellness practitioners, guides, transportation providers, and community organizations throughout Kumamoto, Japan. Many of these experiences are offered as integrated packages, allowing us to create a seamless and personalized journey for our guests.
Travel pricing is also dynamic and can fluctuate due to seasonal demand, supplier availability, exchange rates, taxes, and other factors. Package pricing allows us to provide a clear and straightforward proposal while maintaining flexibility to deliver the highest-quality experience possible.
We offer slow-paced itineraries of 7 days, 14 days, and 21 days trips that are aligned with the unique needs of our clients.
Unexpected circumstances can occasionally arise. Weather disruptions, transportation delays, and other unforeseen events are sometimes beyond anyone’s control. Should challenges occur, you will not have to navigate them alone. We respond quickly to identify solutions, coordinate with local providers, and keep you informed every step of the way. Whether by phone, text, or email, we remain in close contact until the situation is resolved.

No. Aletis Travel retreats are wellness experiences and are not intended to replace medical care, diagnosis, or treatment. We encourage all participants to consult their healthcare providers before traveling.

We recommend booking at least 6 to 10 months in advance to ensure availability and allow ample time for thoughtful planning.
